The GMU is used with set down type packers for equalizing tubing and annulus
pressures. Pressure is contained by three extra-large O-ring type seals which withstand repeated cycles of unloading and equalizing. The unloader is manufactured in either a jay slot configuration or straight slot configuration. Both configurations provide means of transmitting torque through the unloeader to ready the companion packer for setting. The straight slot unloader is closed by direct set down weight and opened by direct pick up on the work string. The jay slot unloader is closed by picking up, rotating one quarter turn to the right, then setting down. After setting down, the tubing can be rotated one quarter turn to the left, if desired, to lock the unloader closed. To open the unloader, use the reverse order mentioned above.
